Convert DAT to WMV, VCD to ASF Guide

 

Alon Video Converter is a comprehensive Windows video tool that makes it easy to convert, split and join video clips among a variety of major formats as well as many of the operations a user want to do, like extracting the audio and join/split video files. All these packed in a nice and clean user environment.

 

In this guide we will explain how to convert DAT to WMV, VCD to ASF with Alon Video Converter. You are able to read more guides about the other uses of the program through the left menu.

Tips before we get started:

  • Turn OFF your Screen Saver, it will simply slow the conversion down by hours.

  • Do not run any other program in the background while Alon Video Converter is running, especially if you have a slower computer.

  • Re-boot the computer just BEFORE you start the conversion, in this way you have the best conditions as possible. Do not under estimate this step, I find it essential to guarantee a 100% perfect encode.

3 Easy Steps!

Step1 Add source video files.

  • Click the "Add Task" button on the main window.
     

  • Click "All To WMV/ASF" on the "Task Window".   
     

  • Click the "Add File" button to add source files that you want to convert to WMV/ASF format. The source file could be DAT, AVI, WMV, ASF and MPEG.

The format of VCD/SVCD is DAT. You can find the DAT files in the "MPEGAV" folder.

Step2 Set the output profile. 

  • Select the location where you want the output file to be saved.

  • Check the box of "Save as ASF format" if you need ASF file. Otherwise, the application output WMV files.

  • Choose a Windows Media Profile (for advanced users). General users could just leave the default value.

Cannot find what you want in the list? Check the box of "Custom Profile", click "open" button to select a Windows Media Profile (*.prx) on your hard disk or CD.

Step3 Click the "Start" button.

This should be the picture you'll get after you have added the task. You can add as many as you want and have then processed all together. Simply click the "Start" button to start conversion.

Alon Video Converter is a very good program. Its speed is above the average and generally it's a handy tool for all these video conversions you want to do fast and easy.

If you have any trouble converting DAT file, please install an MPEG-2 Decoder.  During the installation, make sure you check MPEG-2 Filter box on the step of "Select other filters to install".
